Jurgen Klopp throws doubts about Trent Alexander-Arnold’s availability for the clash between Liverpool FC and Manchester City. We wonder how Klopp can tactically prepare for this game, with his star right back out, Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Why is Trent Alexander-Arnold a doubt?
It was noticed that Trent didn’t even travel with the squad for the clash against FC Porto in the Champion’s League group stage. Klopp confirmed in his pre-match interview that Trent is suffering from an adductor injury which he picked up in training.
According to Klopp, Trent was assumed to be tired following Saturday’s game against Brentford. However, when Trent left training slightly earlier than usual, it was expected to be something a little more than fatigue. Scans and further investigations found that his injury is more severe than first feared. Klopp also said that Trent was a major doubt for the game against Manchester City on Sunday. He was quoted saying that it is ”very unlikely” that Trent will feature on Sunday.

With such a key player missing due to his exceptional playmaking ability, who knows what lineup Klopp will go with. He has multiple options, but only one natural right back option in Neco Williams. However, Neco has been suffering with injuries and even when he has played, he has struggled to find consistent form.
Alternatively, Klopp has players who are not natural right backs but have showed an ability to play there, with James Milner, Fabinho and Joe Gomez. With Milner, he has got experience on that side of the pitch, with an engine down that right flank. Fabinho and Gomez whoever are more conservative defenders and don’t go forward as much as Milner. It does all depend on how Klopp prepares tactically, whether he uses the more attacking 4-3-3, or the more structured 4-and slightly more defensive 4-2-3-1.
