Carabao Cup Trophy

Young stars will have a chance to impress

With Liverpool prioritising the Premier League and Champions League, this fixture gives them the perfect opportunity to give key players a rest but always provides an opportunity for some of the promising young talent to prove themselves at this level.

Pep Lijnders has stated that Curtis Jones is set to start, which is one of the youngsters set to play, although we already know that he can play at the top level. Minutes have been shy for Curtis Jones this season, so it will good for him to get minutes under his belt and to fight for a starting spot in the bigger competitions.

Neco Williams is another play who Liverpool are familiar with, considering he has a number of caps for Liverpool, although consistency has been hard to find for him. The potential and ability is there, but he just needs the confidence to show in night in night out. He could potentially be starting at RB which will be good for his morale and to show why he is the man to play backup to Trent Alexander Arnold.

The one to watch in this fixture if he plays is Kaide Gordon, the young talent signed from Derby aged 16 last season. He had an impressive pre-season this year with Liverpool and suprised many who have never seen him play before. Pep Lijnders spoke very highly of the young winger. Here is what he said when asked about Kaide Gordon.

“About Kaide, before pre-season we always make sure that our biggest talents start a week earlier than we start,” the Dutchman told reporters.

“They start with the under-23s training and I went to the u-23s training ground to watch and I see one player and he has fire in each moment he touched the ball.

“He passes players like they are not standing there so I call Jurgen like, “Wow, we have a new player here.”

Hopefully he gets his chance to make his competitive debut for Liverpool and showcase his insane ability and potential to help Liverpool progress.
